In its Joint Explanatory Statement for the 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act, Congress directed the Government Services Administration (GSA) to promote energy efficiency through the use of revolving doors. In response, GSA is implementing its Revolving Door Initiative. According to this Slate Article citing an MIT study, on average 8x as much air is exchanged when a swing door is opened as opposed to a revolving door and energy savings can be as much as 1.5% of total energy required to heat and cool a building.
